Calupera Prolifera pruning?

I have a 30 gal refugium, that has been taken over with calupera prolifera. Now...should I prune it back? to let more grow? How should I prune , just rip it out? Or cut it out with scissors?

I use a pair of scissors and try to remove it in as large of pieces as possible. The more cuts you make the more toxins get released.
