it doesnt have the model #, but here is the description of it : FinePix 7 megapixel digital camera with 10x optical zoom offers both superior performance and ease of use. Camera blends serious SLR styling and performance with point-and-shoot operation. The 10x optical zoom and 4.8x digital zoom give you 48x total zoom power. High sensitivity up to 1600 ISO and picture stabilization help ensure crisp results. Features auto/manual focus with macro and super macro ranges, and program AE with manual option. Easy mode dial lets you select shooting modes, including movie mode with sound and 12 special scenes. The built-in i-Flash intelligent auto flash determines optimum flash intensity for your conditions; has red-eye reduction and slow synchro modes. The built-in memory card slot accepts both xD-Picture Cardâ"žÂ¢ and SD formats; optional 1GB xD-Picture Cardâ"žÂ¢ sold separately. Equipped with a 2 1/2" LCD monitor, electronic viewfinder, USB port and video output. PictBridge®-enabled; PC- and Mac®-compatible. If it is still a point and shoot it will suffer from the limitations of a point and shoot. Namely slower focusing, shutterlag,Higher noise levels as ISO goes higher...
The D40 is a DSLR so accepts additional lenses (not all of them as the D40 cannot accept non AFS lenses which makes lens choice a bit more expensive. Still that privilege of using different lenses comes at a price. guess you better consider if you want to keep shooting on a P&S or make the move to a D40 and start investing in a decent lense arsenal....
