well i really have no knowledge about cameras and the different types of lenses... I have a point and shoot and then i have a underwater camera. so i was wondering whats a good camera to get that allows me to get the real close ups that i see here. what are the typical price range for those types of cameras and how much are the lenses going to run me.
I really want to get into photography but the point and shoot cameras just cant get the close ups like i want. Unless im using them wrong

a canon T2i, and a 100 mm Macro lens would be about $650

then for another 100 you can get extension tubes too, go as close to 5 times magnifications.

or look into reversing lens.

things you are going to look up on google :) Im just kidding of course.

you can find alot better and more in dept info on google, but extension tube basically moved lens away from camera, giving you ability to get more "magnification" but it lowers DOF and also reduces light a bit.

reversing lens is to put a short focal point lens other way around. gives you greater magnification, but with canon you will not get control, also VERY short DOF.

HTH, my explanation is sure missing alot though.

ill do some research on them... whats DOF? this camera stuff is confusing.. i can take a car apart and put it back together.... photography not so much

there is a book called 'understanding Exposure" by Brian peterson ... Great book ! try to get a copy and read it, short too.

I was like you 6 months ago ... still not much better at it, but just know what those terms mean and what each function on camera does ... but I lack the artistic sense I think lol

DOF = Depth of Field.
