Im an idiot and I some how lost my Olympus Stylus 720 SW nearly a $400 dollar camera. Not too happy about it but it has been 3 months now and no luck so its time to move on. I am lookin for a digital camera that is fairly easy to operate has video capabilities and can take good photos all around. I want something to take good shots of my salt tank close and far, as well as your everyday pics. I am wanting to purchase this camera from best buy being that they have a sale going for 12% off anything over $250. One that caught my eye was Sony - Cyber-shot 8.1MP. I am wanting to spend around $ 300- $500 does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you like your Olympus, if so get the same thing since you're already familiar with it. The PowersShot series by Canon and the Sonys are also good. Also, don't limit yourself to just Best Buy. All you have to do is say Best Buy has 12% off and just about any retailer will match that.

i got a great deal at Wofl camera jsut after christmas. i told them that i was going to go to Best Buy and they gave me better prices. i got a Fiji

plus great service. my nephew did someting to the camera and they replaced it with a new one

if rwblues is referring to wolff camera (as I was)

then the one I know of is in the chesterfield mall (its a ritz camera franchise)

For P&S cameras, I got a new Canon A650 which seems to be a pretty awesome camera (I'm still learning how to use it). Lots of manual control capabilities and flip out screen. Many people seem to be very happy with the new Canon G9 as well. Check out dpreview.com for reviews on a ton of cameras.

I appreciate all of your guys help. Latazyo you inspired me to get the D40. I bought it today at Best Buy and paid $494 with that discount plus I will recieve points on my rewards card and get a voucher for like 5-10 bucks probably. If you don't mind my asking what did you pay for yours, and have you purchased any different lenses? They had a 10x zoom for like $250 but I want to do my homework before I get into that.

I don't believe thats a real zoom lens. It should have a range like 100-300 or a fixed lens. That might be a magnifier. Check out b & h photo. They usually have a great selection at the best prices. I bought a 24-70 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8 IS this summer from b and h for my canon. Also adorama is a great camera site. Good luck finding your lenses and welcome to another expensive hobby.

yeah, a zoom lens will have a range of mm values, like mrgolfo said 100-300 or 18-55 mm etc

I got mine for christmas, but it was $477 shipped from amazon

if this is your first SLR (which it is for me) then I would recommend not to even think about additional lenses at this time...there's a lot to learn and its pretty intimidating at first

I haven't even thought about looking at additional lenses yet, but it will probably be a fixed focal point macro lens (b/c of the aquarium hobby)

lenses for our D40s are going to be pretty expensive thanks to the autofocus issue with the camera body....oh well

PM sent to Kvc
