I was wandering if someone might have some feed back on the best camera to buy in the price range of $250-500. I'd prefer to stay on the bottom end of that range but if the options far out weigh what I can get on the top end possibly I'd be willing to go that high. I'm really clueless when it comes to camera's one thing I would like to have is the ability to zoom in fairly close for the pictures that give the fine detail of corals and such. I'm not sure if there is a camera in my range that can do that. Thanks for all your input

It's hard to beat the Sony cameras in that price range as far as picture quality and easy of use. You can easily get a 7-8 mega pixel camera for that price(lower end of your price scale).
for $500 I just got a Digital SLR.
The camera I'm replacing is a Casio Exilim and I love it, but it is relatively small. And it's a 5mp camera and takes great pictures. It replace another Exilim about 2 years ago when I upgraded from a 2mp version of the same camera.
