Cameras!

We are leaving for Mexico in a few days and even with the Apex I never truly knew what was going on around the tank. I had some cameras laying around gathering dust so I decided to put them around the tank. I have one looking straight at the tank. The other two are in the sump area.

This should give me a good idea if everything is still moving like it's supposed to and if the lights are on. I can also hear the fan in the hood working if the temp goes above 81. The Apex will alarm me as well but this is not a bad backup.

This one is over the fuge. I can see the return from the GFO/Carbon, the Pharos LED's on the side of the sump, the LED's over the sump, the calcium reactor recirculating pump, return from main tank and of cause the entire fuge.

This one is on the other side of the sump. It allows me to see the biopellet reactor, the skimmer, skimmer cup, drip line from the calcium reactor and the water level.

Now who wants to be my tank sitter? The pay is crappy, I'm demanding and ruthless but you get to troubleshoot and fix whatever I messed up over the last 5 years :) How about it?

You can call if you need anything.

I'm in the neighborhood too.

Thank you gentlemen for the offer. I'll keep you in mind as the backup plan. One of my neighbors will take care of it while I'm gone. He has a good understanding of my system. He has been learning and asking questions for a few months now. Last time he had a tank of his own was 2002. I'm helping him put together his new tank right now.

I use my old iPhone with a $2 or $3 app and stream to my phone. It also streams with apex as well. I had a couple old phones laying around so it was a cheap way to see my tank while I am away. I also have a nice Panasonic IP camera for the full frontal ;) view.

Which app? I used to do it with a iPhone and a little DIY but it didn't always work. I would like to add the front view to my Apex with an iPhone. That would allow each to see it better and I could move the camera I have there now to the canopy.

The app is IPCamera

Great hack, I never would have considered my old iPhone3.

Yes I do. After you install the IPCamera, it will tell you the up address of the phone. Log into your router and setup port forwarding for that IP address. Then google what's my ip. Then go to apex and add the camera using the what's my IP address. For example your what's my IP address is 75.134.25.25 then you would enter 75.134.25.25:20000/live. The 20000 number represents whatever port you designate for port forwarding. If you need help, pm me and I will give you my number and I will walk you through it.
