Well since the horde appears to live in my neighborhood ,:angryfire:after 30 years I need a camera system. So I am looking into what is out there.

I'm pretty happy with my Nest cams. They're a little expensive but they work well and I get alerts quickly on my phone. Can't say the same for Ring.

If you have Costco membership you can get Arlo cameras at a slightly lower price there. I got the three pack.

I prefer PoE cameras and BlueIris. The motion sensor triggers on BlueIris is good. Dahua/HilVision cameras are good for the price. I'm running 1080p cameras. They work great picking up details.

Serious question. I have friends and friends of friends who got robbed and was showing off the videos. You can clearly make out the faces ( as they don't don't care they are being recorded) of these robbers, yet I have never heard that the outcome was that the person was caught after the video became police evidence.

So is the idea of getting a camera system to scare the robber away? If so... Why not just put up dummy cameras?

Is it so that the home owner gets to see the person that robbed him and that somehow makes the situation better?

Or is it simply on the off chance someone will see the video and recognize the person?

Really just curious.

Well for me it seems that a neighbor (Maybe) has now chosen that I am their guy, first, they stole my car and now it seems my rental car has a brand new heavy dig over the passenger door, so Yeah I get to pay for that as well. So maybe I want to know who is doing it. The police arrest the courts let them out.
Secondary I would get some kind of tracking device in a car if it is the type that may be stolen.

I have had few problems in my Neighborhood since I put up cameras 10 years ago. My cameras are IP cameras and I do not have to pay a monthly fee. I am in process of upgrading some to new because they are not good enough to get a plate number like new cameras, but we were able to get a picture of a kid who stole my sons bike and the Police actually got it back because they knew this kid. I do think people will pass up a house with cameras for one without. With that said we have caught 3 different people in Hoodies checking for unlocked cars in our neighborhood because the police do little to these petty thiefs so make sure you lock your cars at night. I sometimes wish the motion could set off a Speaker that Said FREEZE PUT YOUR HANDS UP!, Scare the hell out of them.

With automation, I think it's possible to get it to trigger a recording.

I for one have cameras for peace of mind and love the ability to VPN in and check on the house if I'm not home.

I put them in for the Tank, but added more for the house, I used to sneak out when I was a Teenager, my kids get caught including a time stamp of when they get home.

Haha! I started with the house and now looking to add a third for the tank. Wyze cameras are awesome for the tank. Especially for the price.

You absolutely can do that with enterprise analytics. It will cost more than a few radions to do it right.
