can a chiller save you money on electricity?

i was wondering. if i got a chiller for my tank would that allow me to adjust the AC thermostat to let the house be warmer during the day to save electricity on the overall cost of cooling an empty house?

our townhouse is 1580 sq feet with 9 ft tall ceilings and im thinking thats an awful waste of air conditioning during the day when noones home. would it be cheaper to let the house get warmer and use a chiller so youre only spending electricity to cool a smaller area. i would imagine the sump pump + chiller would have to be taken into account because you cant really use a chiller without a sump from what ive seen.

I think you'll save a bunch in the long run.I run a 1/4 HP on my tank/sump/fuge.It kicks on at most, about 3 times a day.It is only 650watts vs about 10Kwatts to run the AC.Now I run my tank on the high temp side(82),so your chiller will run more if your tank is kept cooler. Also I have my chiller in the garage,so all the heat is vented there. If your chiller is to run in the house, then that may cause your AC to kick on more often, but I think you'll still be using less energy. Also a chiller is a real blessing if you loose power & have a generator,as you won't have to worry about overheating issues.I still run a bunch of fans,as I like a high evap rate,so I can dose limewater. If you're not into topping off, then using a chiller can really cut down on evap rates also,as you're not using the air movement to cool the water.I think it would be a smart investment for you.Good luck,Darcy
