can a mag pump be plumbed outside of water?

how loud are they?
I have a mag 12 in my sump on my 90g and it makes no sound, but it is in water

yea it can be run outside of water, dont know how loud it will be though. Just run a hose and give her a try outside of the water to give you an idea about how loud it will be.

I had mine (mag 12) plumbed outside for awhile on top of some spunge thing. I wouldn't say that it was completly quite because
I was still able to hear a HMMMMMing...... sound.
But without the spunge in the middle of the pump and stand
it was definetly loud.

i have a mag 9 plumbed outside on a closed loop. A LOT quieter than the quiet one 4000 i used to run on the same loop.
