Can a RBTA cross the sand to get onto glass?

The reason I ask this is because I dont have my power heads covered, and my RBTA started to move yesterday. No where in my tank is the rock work up against the glass, there is minimum two inches clearance everywhere. So how likely is it that he will cross the sand bed to reach the glass? I am thinking not likely and he will circle the rock work till he finds somewhere hes happy

He can go anywhere he wants, but I think he will stay on the rock also. I have seen RBTA on glass before though.

It would have to be really, really unhappy to venture out onto sand or to let go and float. If your setup is ok (lights, flow), it will most likely wander about on your rocks until it finds the best situation for it.

Yeah I think my tank is pretty darn stable so I am not worried about that. I think he just wants to find a new home and will hopefully stay attached to the rock work and not float off somewhere

It doesn't matter if it can cross sand because it can inflate and float away!

That's what I'm thinking--and it could get pulled right into a powerhead if it drifted near one. My advice would be to cover your powerheads, ASAP. Better safe than sorry!
