Just ordered one of these beauties. I'm hoping for a male but would be happy with either sex.
That's a beautiful female/juvi one you have there.

Don't worry about it too much. While I don't know if you'll get an amazing wild male. These fish will become male when they reach full size. So don't stress too much.

Will they become male even in the absence of a female?

IME yes, now there are some variations that might not appear if you don't buy an adult fish. Very neat fish. There was a halo. photo thread floating around on the first page for a while.

Awesome fish. I got one and QT'd it and was eatting good. Then added to my DT and bam, my six-line started hitting it. I managed to catch him a few days later, but was really beat up. I moved him to QT, but wasn't eatting as good as before and only lasted a week. I didn't think anything about adding him, since I just had a yellow coris that the six-line never bothered. Just be careful if you've already got a six-line. Good luck, from the photos of them, they are awesome looking when they get older.

haha Melanurus was my first guess and then I scroll down and it's the consensus :)

Here's mine. I had him a short while...maybe 6 months. Then I tore down my tank due to selling the house. He was rehomed to a local club guy.

Do you have any frozen PE mysis?
