Can anyone ID this for me?

It is a snail eating polyclad flatworm. Bad news. You need to get him out..all of him.{he will try to break apart to get away..then those parts can regenerate into more} They are very difficult to eradicate. It took me years to get them all. I think I have. You have to be quick to get them. They will kill and eat any snail they can get. The only snails I could keep were the ones that stayed high up on the glass. There are many types of polyclad flatworms, the one you have is the most common seen in the hobby, same ones I had. Good luck getting him. Watch for more at night, if you find out that he is living under a certain spot, but miss him....he will go back to that spot.

Just GREAT!!! I had my chance to nab him and I didn't! I only saw this one, but he was big, probably around 3" or so.

I was blaming my declining snail population on my hermits, since they seemed to be walking all around with the shells, but this guy was wrapped around a shell, so I probably caught him in the act.

I guess I will set my alarm tonight and see if I can get it out!

I just took a look, and no luck! It's only been a few hours since the lights went out, so I will set my alarm and give it another shot later tonight.

I did notice that my stomatella population has diminished as well. Probably from the worm...

Come to think of it, I had a 4" Maxima clam disappear, all that's left is it's shell, could the worm have eaten it as well?

I have had these flatworms get to be as big as my hand. They posess a toxin which they use to kill the snail. Not sure if they would eat a clam, but in an unnatural environment anything is possible. Was the clam healthy one day and gone the next? A large eunicid worm could eat the clam. Bristleworms could take out a clam if it died. Was it on the substrate? Maximas are rockboring clams, they are vulnerable at the foot. This and the fact that they need the highest lighting you can give them means they should be up in the rockwork. Croceas as well.

As far as I know the clam was in good health. However I purchased it around 3-3.5" and it didn't grow any the entire time I had it. It was around 8mo old.

Everytime I place the clam on the rocks it would jump off back into the sand. I finally found a rock with a little crevice and placed it there, but soon after I noticed an empty shell...

Waterfaller... Did you find a way to bait them? I've looked a few nights now and nothing, absolutely no trace of it. I was hoping you had found a way to lure the little suckers in...

No, but I am a night owl w/ a flashlight. And I had taken my old tank apart a couple times to get fish out or remove a problem algae. I guess I was just lucky to see the others. One, I found under a rock, all slithered up in the crevices. That was his home because months later I found him in the same spot. I found the best way to get it out was to take the rock to the sink and flush him out w/ fresh hot water. Over the years I had taken about 4 out of my old 75, and 1 out of my 65.

OMG! i had one of these in my tank, i dont even know why they are soo bad, but i remember EVERYONE telling me that i needed to get it out ASAP, yeah, wait til night and get that bad hitchhiker outta there.

Wish me luck tonight, goin huntin!!!! :)

I guess if I can't find the booger, I will search really hard when I transfer tanks, definitely don't need it getting in there!!!
