I have a derasa thats on a rock about 1/3 of the way up and I'm about to do a large waterchange... is it ok for it to be out of water for about 1 minute?
The clam that I have I bought from someone about 5 months ago when his house caught on fire. One of his fish tank lights sparked up and set fire to his basement and fish tank. The tank was destroyed and everything died except his clams which were 1 corocea, 2 maximas and a big squamosa. These clams were all out of water for at least 2 hours. So yes again.
I'd guess that their insides are full of water and so when they clamp shut they force it out that way. There is a two part article in the RK Magazine that talks about corals and even clams and how they survive out of water for long periods of time during low tides etc. You could find a lot of useful information there if you have time to read it all.
