Can Coraline become a problem?

Hello all,

I'm just wondering if you can have such a thing as too much coraline? My rocks are nicely covered, and I've noticed it doesn't take long for new rock additions to become speckled.

I have recently noticed dots of purple appearing on the glass of my tank, and just this morning I see it is actually inside my protein skimmer. It is also on my powerheads, and I find it quite sharp when cleaning them...

Is this ok? Can it become a problem after a while??

I think it can grow on any surface in the tank. I've had it grow inside 1" tubing. The only real trouble I've had with it is that it grew on my heater's temp probe and I thought it might effect the reading.

The biggest problem I have is that I get sick of cleaning the glass of coraline. It becomes a royal PITA after a while.

I have heard that urchins can keep coraline in check if you feel like it's getting out of control, but they can be kind of a pain too (prickly spines, bulldozing rocks and corals, etc).

No, it's not a problem yet, but I was surprised how quickly it is spreading all of a sudden.

It is quite pretty, and I'd rather have lots then none at all!
