can hermits damage sps corals?

this morning 1 of my blue leg hermit crabs was perched on top of my german blue monti(i think thats what it is). is this a bad thing. can they cause tissue damage? im worried because this is the healthiest coral i have.

I have a blue hermit in my display that would climb up to the same coral everyday like it was his look out. I'd reach in there and pull it off and the next day he'd be back up there. never seemed to cause any damage to the coral but i could tell the acro didn't appreciate it crawling around on it.

im wondering if an sps tank should even have hermits. maybe all snails. i dont know.

im not the biggest fan of snails because they seem to knock more things over than hermits...even though everything is glued in my tank i find newly placed frags on the sand and im guessing its my snails. just my 2 cents
