I added a couple of Ocellaris a bit ago and wanted to add 1 more fish.

I heard they are territorial and don't want it to get hurt.

its only a 20g long but can I add 1 more mid size fish to the tank with the clowns?

ok

I have a goby in there as of now and they seem to be fine and don't bother him.

he was in there for about a month before I got them though...

technically, why not ?

if you introduce the new fish correctly, and be prepared to feed it enough and increase water changes to compensate for extra feeding then sure, why not ...

just make sure its a small fish that would hold the balance in tank ... u dont want to add a bad Arse fish that makes all others hide, or other way around.

if you acclimate it correctly, they wont. [unless u want a third clown ... ]

everywhere on the net it sais 2 emperor angels is a NO-NO ... yet I had a beautiful pair in a 250 ... same with my bandits now, regal before it. All about how they are acclimated to captive life and introduced to one another, or in your case to the community.

Any tips on acclimation in this circumstance?

Acclimation time length depends more on what the water the fish is in's salinity vs yours. The biggest thing going with acclimation is trying to get the salinity close to your tank before you add it... that said quarantine is always a good idea. I'm guessing you are just going to add it to the display though so I'd float the bag with the fish for about 15 min to get the temp close and maybe just toss it in...

If you mean acclimation being to keep the aggression down... either add your new fish at night or turn the lights off before you add it and leave them off until the next morning. Before you do that though move some rock work around in the tank. Move a rock or 2 from the clowns and stack some different structure near them. Then when the lights come in maybe it won't be their territory anymore and they won't be trying to protect it as much.

I disagree that keeping two clowns in a 20 gallon tank is sufficient. When they are sexually mature and start mating, they will control the entire tank. Adding an additional fish is not a good idea.

if it was a pair of maroons, then sure I could agree. but with Percs I dont think. all of the percs Ive owned were just terrotorial around their "home" and other fish did fine around them.

accilimating fish to a community is a process that takes days, let them see each other, get used to one another, then release an hour before lights go out. and watch carefully.

I agree. Chances are you will be fine. IME, occs and Percy's are only agressive to other clowns. I have kept multiple mating pairs of both species and never had a problem.

I like the idea of moving the rock work around so that its not "their territory" anymore and then lights out. I think I will try that.

Any suggestions in terms of size fish though?

Small - may get bullied easily?
large - they may feel threatened ad become aggressive?

Any ideas here?

of course you can not put a large fish in a 20G so ...

do some research on how experienced reefers introduce new fish.

Try an aggressive small fish like a damsel. Clowns will not mess with them and the Damsel will keep away from their "homebase", whatever that might be. But... the damsel will be your most aggressive fish in the tank and will most likely kill anything else you stick in.
