Can I add a 2nd Tang?

I would like to add another fish or two to my reef tank and I am thinking about a yellow tang or another smaller tang variety. My current fish are...

One Spot Foxface
Kole Tang
Clownfish pair
small possum wrasse

My Tank is 48" L x 24" W x 20" H
About 100G
Reef Tank with good amount of swimming room and plenty of spots to hide.

Again, I was thinking about another tang but if that is not a good idea, I will look at other options. I haven't made up my mind at this point.

Personally I think you'd be ok - with the integration I added a vampire and Regal tang after adding a purple and yellow tang and they all got in fine, a tip is to ensure any new tang is slightly smaller than your current.

Just be mindful of ich with powder blues and regals

You can but 1) your tank isn't big enough for the Tangs to be together for long 2) the Tangs plus the foxfish will produce a lot of bioload. I suggest to look into fairy or flasher wrasses.

Thanks. These were the other fish I was considering along with maybe a flame hawkfish. Other option is maybe 3-5 blue green chromis but I am worried about them killing each other off.

I am actually tying to increase my bioload a bit because some of my corals look a bit dull and I think my nutrient are too low. Zero Nitrate and 0.03 phosphate. But I also don't want to put a fish in my tank that I will later have to remove. So maybe the smaller fish are a better choice.

If you have a lid, I would then suggest to add a school of tilefish. Yellow, purple, skunk, and bluehead make a nice display since they are always out.

Any thoughts on a small school of Blue Green Chromis? Would 5 be too many? I have read that starting with more you are less likely to end up with just one. Not sure if this is true. Thanks.

Respectfully disagree that the tank is too small and the bioload would be excessive, but to each their own. That is not a lot of fish for that tank size, even when fully grown.

More concerned about the tangs getting along more so than their waste production in 100 gallons + sump.

I believe that is one reason my nitrates are zero and some corals are a bit pale. (Low nutrients). So I am trying to increase fish waste. Thx

Not even looking at the size of your tank tangs need to be added together, the established one will be brutal to the newer one. Your tank is border line for two tangs and the smaller ones are pretty much the same species which causes another issue..

5 chromis would be cool... I personally use 8 or more because under that number they seem to kill each other off.

Maybe 3 lyretails.

Tank looks nice. also nice to see a tank where the corals are far enough apart to give them enough room to grow into colonies.

Not a second tang , but the third one. IMO, Fox Face essentially function as a tang. For your size tank, a Powder blue, Purple, or Powder brown will do fine. If I am you, I remove the Fox Face, which will get too big IME, and add a Yellow and Powder Blue. The PBT should go in last. He will be the most aggressive.
If I am really attached to the Foxface, I add either a Purple or a Powder Blue.

I recently got this small Powder Blue from Live Aquaria. Was not happy, because he was really emaciated and with Ich. Here are his picture on arrival and at 1 week. Improved quite a bit. The Ich have essentially resolved in my QT system. This is a 65 gal reef. He will eventually go to my 320 as one of the last, or near last fish.

I would not add a powder blue they are the meanest tang out there right along with white cheek and powder brown. I add one that was way smaller than the rest of my tangs and last and he killed by Atlantic blue and was going to kill my kole and that was a 6 foot tank. it may have worked for you but that is not the case with allot of people.

I always have Powder Blue tang in my tanks. I think they are one of the most beautiful of the tangs. A bout aggressiveness, You have seen nothing yet until you see Clown , Sohal or Achilles tangs killing other fish that they have been with for a long time.

There are several things you can do to defuse aggressiveness of tangs. Increase water flow, provide enough food, have several, at least two Nori station for the fishes, and of course not over crown or have too small of a tank.
Put a mirror on the side of the tank for several days to occupy the more aggressive tangs and other fishes.

In that size tank, I would probably not add another tang. With the foxface that's almost like having 2 tangs already. This could cause aggression and they will incur the same source of food and eating habitats.
