I really like a crocea but I know they are native to only inches of water, so a maxima most likely. I am going to add a sump as soon as i decide how to get ater from the tank to the sump, then i will drop the light to about 4" off the water and add two small screw in PCs to cover the ends.
Deresa and samsaquia (sp?) clams don't require much light at all. Although they are not as "pretty" as a maxima IMO, they do have nice color and can become big. In fact I purchased a Deresa clam that has bright blue edges just like a maxima this weekend. Quite nice! But, I think you would be just fine with a maxima.
If you get a smaller clam, you should be fine for awhile. Depending on where your located and how your LFS purchases clams this shouldn't be too big of a problem. Although people in my part of the world are very very lucky. One of the LFS (Exotic Tropicals) in NW Arkansas has THE best clam selection I have ever seen. All species and all sizes. The owner is awsome and would prob. even ship to you if you really want. Just pm or e-mail me and I will get you all the info.
