I can't even tell what you are referring to or what it actually is or why you need to brace.

hard to tell from your photos.
I am no expert, but if you're going to brace the 180 with piece of glass. Put it inside the tank so that the glass are touching each other (i.e., glass silicone to glass). Don't silicone glass to the plastic bracket as it is almost useless.

99% sure that wood trim is just decorative.
