Can I put prime in my reef tank?? Clownfish sick in established tank.

I believe that after adding two new fish in a weeks period and feeding more than I usually do I have thrown off my tanks chemistry. I have been watching my clownfish glup for air at the top of the tank all day. He has spots on his face around his eyes. I did a 25 percent water change 5 hours ago. Will be doing another one in a few hours. Tank has been up and running for over a year.

Can I add prime?? Will this help?

Also just tested. Nitrates=0

yes prime is reef safe, but did you test water before you did these water changes. adding 2 fish in a 1 year old fully cycle tank shouldn't cause such bad water in few weeks
it is also possible that since you didnt qt your new fish your introduced a diseases into your tank. try to test in this hobby not guess

I absolutely did quarantine the fish in a ten gallon tank. I just tested nitrates from the Red Sea test kit and they are zero. Very confused on why I am having this problem.

Agree with anthonys51 test first before adding anything. Posting results will aid in better responses. If it looks like grains all over could be ich. Posting some pictures will help as well. Can also search ich and compare and see if it looks similar.

sorry, your are right i shouldn't have assumed. how did qt, did you do ttm ?

nitrates are zero. what kind of test kit are you using. plus don't think nitrates are your problem. my friends tank was 160ppm and his fish where fine.

Prime would only help if your issue is ammonia/nitrite (mini cycle somehow?), which you can test for.

Your established tank should be able to handle the new fish though.

Btw which nitrate test kit did you use? If API, then make sure to shake bottle #2 really really well
