Im looking to brighten up my 120 48"x24"x24". I read an article about a beautiful sps tank with only t5s over it. July issue rk mag. so what i want to know is can i drive 48" 54w t5s with a ice cap 660 and if i do will it make them like 80w bulbs. and how many can i drive and still get the extra wattage. and heat?

That is my setup, i have 4 on the IC660 and they are BRIGHT! I think 4 is the max on the 660. I have two PC fans in my canopy that keep them cool, which is supposed to increase the lifespan as well. Heat has not been an issue for me my tank stays 79-82.

4 t5's ran on a 660 will be overdriven to approx 80watts. I have 8x 48" on my tank with 2x 660 ballasts.

yes! I have 8 - 48" T5s running on dual icecap 660s over one side of my frag tank.....SPS is looking very good!

Icecap says that each bulb is getting about 83 watts each......but make sure to get good bulbs......the crappy ones burn crazy colors when you over drive them! The giessemann bulbs are working very well for me!

heat is not a big deal, though the bulbs do get hot! just a small fan or two blowing over the bulbs is good! and make sure to get top of the line reflectors for your T5s

the actinic plus bulbs are about the same color as the radium 20K bulbs! keep that in mind! You'll get much better color if you use actinic plus, aquablue and pure actinic bulbs that if you try to use some 10Ks to get better par and supplement them with actinics

I already made the mistake of putting the lights too close to the coral.....the T5s are bright!
