there is a guy near my house who sells good quality sea water collected way off shore. is it ok to use this to set up my new tank for cycling?

We have access to filtered sea water here from scripps pier.
One of the main guys here at birch aquarium uses it in his home.
He says the alkilinity is a little different and adds a buffer, but that is it.
If it's convenient for you, you can, but as b4 mentioned good idea to test it.

yeh im in australia aswell, for my water changes use filtered seawater does the job perfectly

initially however i started off mixing a saltmix bcoz i couldnt afford 600 litres of water straight up to fill my tank

aslong as water isnt collected too close to busy shipping lanes or pollution high waterways it should be sweet.

think mine is sourced by deep ocean trawlers , then sold to lfs filtered and sold for 5 dollars for 25 litres
15 bucks a week but it saves me doing the saltmix , which isnt that hard im just lazy

i hear that you can collect the seawater yourself if you put it in a dark space for a couple of weeks and all the sediment will got to the bottom and you can pour the clear stuff right into the tank
