Can Magnet Rust Kill Fish?

I am cleaning out my quarantine tank and realized that one of the magnet mounts on my Tunze 3162 had rusted significantly. Could this have been the cause of my overnight fish deaths?

i had a rusted out one in my tank for awhile. with fish only and it didnt seem to effect them.
