Can Small Clams Live without Supplimental Feedings

OK this is just a question. I have read through some of your threads on this page and i know that you guys are a little more violent when it comes to some one asking the wrong question.

However let me go on by saying i have a mostly sps dominated tank with some bright zoas, a couple LPS and one leather coral. I also have two larger clams somewhere close to 3-4 inches that have been in my systems for over 2 years. I have 150 MH 14K pheonix bulbs. also 2 96 watt PC. Water Params Solid enough to grow SPS.


OK that being said i would like to get a small 1in clam to have in my tank. I am not into baby sitting anything else (i already have a sun coral). Therefore, if i put the Clam high in the tank and make sure it gets plenty of light is suplimental feeding need? Any answers would be taken.

No, they don't require feeding. It MAY help them, or it may not. IN most systems they can get everything they need without any special help from you.

The idea that all small clams must be fed or will starve was started in an article that was posted on a website - of a company that sells phytoplankton. I've found plenty of scientific evidence that says otherwise...

but i do thank you for the info. I feel like many people try and over care for thier different animals and this tends to lead to problems. I might have to seriously consiter picking one of these up thank you.
