Can someone ID this urchin

Looks like black spine urchin. Some have shorter spines if something picks at them

It's actually an Echinometra lucunter, a species of rock urchin.

They are not poisonous, nor are they venomous. Firmly grasping this species shouldn't puncture any skin.

I found a couple of similar-looking species in Hawaii, with exactly that sort of spine. They feel like hairbrushes, they aren't sharp.

Should I be worried about it destroying live rock?

Nah, these species are very reef safe. Their spines are too frail to push rock. (they'll snap off first)
