Saw this thread here and thought to myself that this would be useful. Googled with no success.
So I suppose I'll start with some of the medications I've tried and had success with (brands noted where I only have experience with one product - doses are as per product instructions unless otherwise indicated):
COMBOS
Metronidazole + Tetracycline (API) was a very effective treatment for my recently for treating bloat in a dwarf angel.
Praziquantel (Prazipro) preceded or followed by Chloroquine Phosphate has been a highly effective combo for treating new arrivals for flukes + ich. I usually do Prazi first since it has a shorter treatment cycle. I've not combined the two medications in tandem, but have began one after the completion of another with as little as 25% water exchange.
Furan II (API) + Copper (Seachem) was my old formula for fish that had ich and any body/fin rot secondary.
Hydrogen Peroxide (applied externally via cotton swab) + Furan II (API) - great treatment for open sores. I would recommend sedating the fish with a few drops of clove oil (I use 5 drops in an icecream bucket for robust fish and
half of that for more delicate fish) before application. Let the Hydrogen Peroxide bubble on the wound for 30 seconds before returning the fish to the hospital tank. DO NOT GET THIS STUFF NEAR OR IN THEIR GILLS!
Magnesium Sulphate (Epsom salts) + Metronidazole - Use this for severely bloated fish to help them evacuate their bowels. I add enough epson salts to get an MG reading of 1750 ppm (from Instant Ocean) then add Metronidazole as per directions. You should see a ton of crap spew from the fish within an hour or two.
Clove Oil + severely distressed/terminal fish - much faster way of humanely euthanizing a fish than freezing, should it come down to it. Also less messy than smiting with a blunt object.
NONBOS
Chloroquine Phosphate + wrasses - Don't do it. Some wrasses shrug it off. Most start to become visibly distressed after the second or third day, often hiding or becoming lethargic.
Copper + Malachite Green - I'm not sure if my experience was standard, but my fish began exhibiting signs of stress after the first 24 hours.
Copper + Lionfish - doesn't work. They stop eating and don't start again.
Garlic + Ich - this might be a little divisive, and sorry for that, but I've never had anything other than anecdotal success with Garlic. I don't think the science supports it. At best, it is an attractant and hungry/eating fish are more likely to shrug off ich than those that are stressed and starving.
If anyone can add to or make notations to this list, please do. I will compile them on a spreadsheet and make it available once there is a reasonable body of information
Cheers!
