Can you have too much moon light?

I don't like the lunar lights that are in my current-usa fixture. Several years ago, I made (actually my brother did it based on my idea :) ) a blue l.e.d. moonlight for a freshwater tank. Still use that light over my indoor plants and the moonlight as a night light in the dark kitchen. Anyway, back to the topic at hand: can you have too much moon light for the tank? I am going to make moon lights for my current tank. It is a 48 inch housing so would an l.e.d. every 2 inches or every 4 inches be too much that it would bother the tank inhabitants?

Well from all a read, using LEDs as moon light is solely for viewing purpose, and doesn't really do anything for the actual inhabitants. I would say every 2 inches is WAY too many. That would be 24 LEDs. I would say every 4 inches would be better, and that 12- 1watt LEDs would look great.

IMO thats still way too much light. I would go with maybe two 1-watt LEDS. You don't want some of teh inhabitants to feel like the day never ends.

my t-5 48" nova extreme has 4 led lunar lights. Lights up the tank just enough to see the rocks and the fish swim by. I think four is the perfect amount. Not too much, not too little

Mine has 4 lunar lights, but they must be about worn out, because it doesn't shine more than 8" into the tank....
