I've been trying to read as much as I can about lighting. Just when I think I have my mind made up, something else pops up, and I feel completely lost.
I'm getting ready to set up a 110 gal tank. It's the normal size, 48l 24w 24h. I don't plan on having too many fish. My ultimate stock list would be a pair of clowns, eventually with their nem (when I feel confident enough that I'll be able to take top notch care of it), a mandarin, maybe a couple of those cute firefish, and possibly a flame or coral beauty angel. (I haven't really checked out any of the compatibilities yet, so may have to drop some of them). I definately want to focus more on corals, though.
I believe I would like to have 2 x 175 or maybe 250 halides (I think 14K, maybe 20? which one would you suggest?) then either 4 or 6 T5, depending on what the canopy will fit.
Now talking with the guy at the LFS (I do trust him.), he also mentioned that I could go with all T5. He did tell me that it will limit some of the things I could put in there, but there was another right there talking with us that said he didn't think so, he's got this, and this, and that and it's all doing good, just have to figure out where they are happy at.
I was also told that if I choose to go with halides, I will probably have to put a chiller. I am already planning on putting eith 4 smaller or two bigger fans on the canopy no matter what I choose. Will that help any?
I basically don't want to be put in the situation that when I'm finally ready to start buying, walk into the store only to find the most perferct for me coral, that "Oh, MAN! I'd die to have that coral!", only to be told that I couldn't get it because I don't have enough light. What would you do? Thanks!
