Can you Pair a True and False Personfier

My TP's coloration seems to vary between a dark grey to jet black depending on mood. The DD description said that my TP was a female changing to a male, how do I tell if the change is complete or if it stayed female? I will post pictures later tonight

Pran,

If you plan on getting a TP I recommend getting one with the stripe already developed because a few of us that bought a year ago without the stripe did show sign of the stripe (in my case both showed after 3 weeks into my tank) but disappeared after only a few weeks. I was so close on getting another one few months ago when one show up on LA DD with the stripe. TP just don't look right without the stripe.

I don't know if TP & FP will pair up but they can certainly coexist in a tank together. My FP was in first and much larger but after a year the TP is catching up in size and I expect in another year the TP will for sure be equal if not larger.

As for your question on price of the TP--the TP I saw recently on DD with the stripe was $500.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin, but rem we talked about how the FP is more nicer than TP b/c of the blue mask

the reason why I wanted to get another personifier, b/c I read how Peter (SD...) his FP grew soo fast quickly after adding the 2nd one, also his and another individuals (JMCIA...) both female and male have the nice blue mask with yellow dots.

Anyways I just checked online and my LFS got the TP last night, I am gonna go and check it out on Tuesday and see if its nice and has the black stripe, if so I may get it.

but do you know if the TP will be nice as false???... I believe Rahul says how his FP has the nicer look than TP, in that case, I think $500 is too much for the wish.

Like, if I like it, then I won't mind spending, but I don't see the point in buying a fish just b/c its rare, but anyways I will go on tuesday and tell you guys how it is, and if I will get it.

It will be cool to see a TP and FP in the same tank (just like urs) with one stripe and another one not.

thx Kevin

btw, so urs has no stripe anymore?

I 2nd getting a TP, I have the one from Don from 10/14 pictured above and it is a model citizen that gets along with everyone. Both my male and female scribbled angels pick on it from time to time but it is finally starting to stand up for itself.

Oh nice ...After the blue line pair, personifier, I may do scribble pair lol

how is your scribble? ...did you get both as female and one turned into male?

Same here.... The FP pair I have are always jet black. The TP sometimes goes a bit grey and is always a lighter shade than the FP.

Thanks Rahul
yes If were to get a TP, for sure I will get one with black stipe

so u have 2 FP and 1 TP? ---other than the fact that TP is rare, which one do you like the most and which one do you think is nice?

regarding your FP, did one turn into male only after getting the female? ...if you only have one and feed it good food, does it have a chance of turning male when they are 6+ inch?

thx

Yes I got a genuine pair of FP and 1 TP. The male FP is the most handsome fish. Although if I had to have 1 i'd go with the TP, just something about it...... maybe the rarity. Although my wife who does not have a clue about price and rarity definitely prefers the TP because of its stripe through the tail.

My advice is if possible then buy a genuine pair.
If I was to start my tank again I would only buy pairs. I always see pairs for sale now too.... my LFS has a Scribbled, Meredithi and Naso tang pair.

+1 on both accounts.

Yes, I remember our conversation. The color on my FP is much darker than the TP but I'm not sure if it's my system that they are losing that deep color or not. I also noticed this trend in several other reefer with TP with the color lighten up after coming into their care as well. But getting info on TP is very difficult, I and another reefer here on RC was trying to get info on TP but not many came forward with and I've looked into UK's forum and only found one reefer there with TP.

Now back to the subject on FP, I really like the mask on the male but there's no way of knowing what you're getting when they are young, I had two from 3" for over 3 years now and the first one is 6.5"+ with the elongated body but no mask yet. So just getting another one is not that simple of getting a male down the road so the best way is buying a pair or getting a male while the existing FP is still small.

As for TP, everyone buys a fish for whatever they desire whether its rarity, the look (in this case the band on the tail) or size (this one can be a showcase fish in the DT given the 35cm size). But more importantly is what fits them the most whether its budget, size of tank or ease of care. I got the FP in 2008 was because they are smaller than the TP when fully grown and at that time they were easily obtainable then the TP became available last year and I was fortunate at the time with changing direction of what I want and to have space to get them.

Whatever you decide you can't go wrong with either one. :)

cool thanks Rahul same here

I am picking up 2 blue line angels 2moro...they are captive bread, and have full adult coloration (no yellow mark on the face) but only 2 inch...

a LFS has one TP left, he says its $475, I am going to go and see it and I may grab it, but I it all depends on how it looks

My scribble and FP were in the LFS's display tank for like 6 weeks together, and now they act like a pair lol

so I guess, I can leave it like that until I pair my FP....

u r right, some fish don't look that nice, but there's something on it
for example/ black tang :P

even I think right now my scribble looks way nicer than my Juv FP, and I have an adult Red Sea Emperor, but for some reason, I love my FP

btw...I heard the TP are from deep water, does this mean they require low temp ??? ...my tank's temp range from 79-82, this is the reason why I did not my conspecisous angelfish, b/c from talking to many experts in this forum, I learned they require low temp like 72-75, is this true for TP also?

Thanks
Prasanna

Thats very true Kevin

I installed my Aqau UV 25 watts today, and I am going to get my blue line pairs 2moro (thx for the video you showed me before, lol b/c of that I am ended up getting a pair, and not only that, after seeing all those pair in your tank, I want to get pairs too, so blue line pairs, personifier pairs and maybe scribble)

It's call addiction...soon you will need trios to satisfy that burning desire.

lol yea Kevin

so today I went to pick up my blue lines, and saw the True Personifier there, its really nice ...I took a video for my RC friends lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEQ_1PkF5mI

its $475, and it is getting the yellow dots on its face

I also picked up the two blue lines, I will post video of that, in the Juvi blue line thread

dude yea its 6 inches, and eats NLS pellets too

the scribble in the background, I have one like that
actually he got 3-4 scribbles (4 inch) and 3 FP (4 inch)

I grabbed one scribble and 1 FP, and I didn't QT them, he had it in his tank for 6 weeks before I picked it up, and he did all the treatment and feeding and etc.

I want to get the TP, but my FP has some issues I think.

Basically, its eating fine and acting normal, but its skin is not solid black, its more of like rusty black, black with some white shades to it?

is this something I should be concern about?

i think your personifer is okay if its eating right and the breathing rate appears fine.

my TP black coloration is similar to the one i posted in post #9. it isnt all black either.

i think 80-82 is a bit warm for an angel heavy tank.

so long term you planning on running a full reef tank with a bunch of angels?

yes, its a very aggresive eater and eats good and alwasy picking stuff around the tank, it just the colour looks bleechy,

yes I know but I heard if you keep your temp high (84, but thats too high so I went with 81) , ich will go away right?

Since its winter now, I can keep my temp around 76 or less, but I feel, the ich may come, please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, not too sure if you saw the reef tank video, but that was last year, I lost all the sps and most of the lps after getting an achilies.

I started to feed the achilies more and everything screwed up.

I still need to buy one or two angel, then starting in jan, I will buy SPS. I think SPS with angels looks really nice, and I will do what I think Peter does, keep all the corals the angels wont eat, lol

my question about the TP and temp is, isn't TP deep water fish? if so, is cold water a requirement, like how it is for Conspicious angelfish, or r they same as FP.

what temp is your tank running at?

thx
Pran
