Hello,
I found this snail on a large rock of mine. I need to make sure it's reef safe. I am not sure what it is. It reminds me of a checkerboard snail, but I think their shells are more round. I couldn't find Chucks addiction ID hitchhiker page. Please let me know. TY

It's very very small so it was kind of hard to capture a picture. Hope this works. Let me know asap. Thank you all.

It's a Trochus shell, and is an algae eater. It appears to be a juvenile, but I can't say for sure which species. Both Trochus niloticus and Tectus conus look very similar to yours when they are small, but several others do the black-to-red color transition as they grow. In any case, it's a good guy.

Cheers,

Don

it's reefsafe. It's a baby Turbo snail I have them too my Turbo snail spawn a lot and I sometimes find the juvenile form of them in my tank.
Do you have big snails in your tank or did you just find it in a new live rock?

As Jack said, it is reef safe, but it isn't a turbo or astraea. It's a trochid. The operculum will be the translucent yellow disc typical of trochids, rather than the thick, calcerous operculum associated with turbinids.

Hi Everyone,
I do have Trochus. I have a red banded Trochus and the Regular Trochus. No Turbo snails though. Thank you all. I just wanted to make sure it was safe before I put him back in. =) Thank you very much.
