Can you recommend SaltWater LFS in Suffolk County

There are two. Fishy's Inc in Bay Shore (665-7500) and Suffolk County Fish and Reef (467-FISH). I like both considerably more than Country Critters. SCFR is a bit pricier but has a tremendous inventory. Fishy INc is a bit smaller and been around longer like a Mom and Pop place.
 
Aqua hut in coram has the best prices. Country criiters has good selection but their ptices and attitudes are terriblle
 
i shop at Suffolk County Fish and Reef because of there selection and health of livestock. nothing i have ever bought from there has ever been sick or hurt so im willing to pay a little more for healthy and good selection of livestock
 
I agree with the impression on Country Critters....good selection but really bad attitudes. Don't go there if you are just starting out. If you know what you are going there for it's fine, but I wouldn't expect to get any kind of "firendly" (or accurate) advice from them. Suffolk County Fish and Reef has a friendly staff and a decent selection of fish. Not as good on the coral selection.
 
I second Fishy Inc, call if you have specific stuff you are looking for, they answer the phone & have no bad attitudes to speak of.
 
I thought it was just me... I walked out of CC and I will never go back... my wife will not either, they are just down right nasty.

I have been going to Country Critters for many years. And for many years their attitude was pretty rude and I felt their prices were high. I did not know there were other good LFS in Suffolk. The very little shops that have very small selection was the norm except for CC. So I am glad I have your input.

I agree... I went 2 weeks ago and everything was spoken for... I also paid $120 for 2 purple eater Polyps. Ill never do that again...
 
If you call fishy ahead of time they will tell you when a shipment is coming. I was there yesterday and Les said he was getting a bunch of stuff in soon.
 
I went to Suffolk County Fish and Reef (467-FISH) this week. Wow! What a difference than Country Critters. While I was browsing, 3 clerks came up and asked me if I needed any help. The place had lots of light and was not "dingy" like country critters. No attitude either...

Surprisingly, their fish are extremely "under crowded". I mean, like a couple of fish in each tank. They even had separators dividing single fish.

I liked it a lot.

I bought a lot of fish, corals from Fish Town USA at 193-33 Northern Blvd., Flushing. They are beating everybody's prices. Medium size purple tang on sale for $49.99, yellow tang $24.99, fire fish $14.99. Half or less of the prices from Country Critter. You may call the manager George at (718)539-5396 or owner Mike to check their shipping schedule before you take a long drive from Suffolk.

However, I could not resist a lime green open brain coral, and paid $129.00 plus tax to Country Critter the day before yesterday. Same coral was sold in Fish Town at $69.99 four month ago, but another buyer grasped the piece in front of my face, I have not seen another piece until I found it in Country Critter.

Country Critter has had a beautiful setup in a 92G corner bowfront tank. I personally feel the new owner Jonathan is better than the old owner.

Do we get extra discount from any store by claiming we are LIRA members?

when you go to suffolk county fish and reef ask to talk to john. he knows what he is talking about and will really tell you if your setup is ok and how the fish dose and if its eating or not. he also seems to be able to get mandarines to eat frozen brine.
 
i goto suffolk county fish and reef as well. Amazing fish inventory, extremely helpful staff (john is the man). However do not buy drygoods from them, i recently purchased a compact florescent from them that they recommended which costs $325 (after discount!). Online at every major e-tailor it was $150-180 dollars.. Purchased a refractomer, $100. At drsfostersmith, the EXACT same one was $44.00. Its partially my fault i should of done my research but oh well, i learned the hard way.

Been there and done that. I needed a new fish scraper. Bought one of the magnet types. Paid $18 in LFS and on Web for $13.

Country Critters has a new owner? Steve isnt the owner anymore? He was a really rude guy and never seemed interested in talking to any of his customers. If Jonathan is the new owner things should be looking up there. I know Jonathan personally and he is a good guy.
 
Please read my post with the heading Country Critters-worst fish store on LI. Jonathan is the worst owner out there. I dont think he has a brain in his little head. Suffolk County fish and reef is where its at.
 
I agree Country Critters is the worst. There prices are extremely high, and the owner Jonathan is the rudest person there. My girlfreind and I have been there many times and are nice people, He has been extremely rude on more than one occasion. I live 2 miles from there and drive everywhere else just never to give him my money.
