Can you top prune mangroves?

I have raised my Hood as much as I would like and still be in proportion to my 100 gal tank. They are thriving and keep growing. I have heard of pulling leaves off but this is past that point. I pruned one at 4 leaves but it hasn't started to bud out. Has anybody had this problem?

Try bonsai wire and bend the sucker over.
