I feel like this a dumb question but....

so a patch of my zoas were closed for about a week and i couldnt figure out why. I tested my water it was all good plus all of my other corals were doing great including SPS and when they opened back up they are a slightly different colors more green.

Before: (when i got it about 6 months about)

I can't see the pictures, but did they come from a different tank? I've had a few colonies really change color when they went from halides to led lighting.

The short answer is: Yes. Zoas/Palys change colors from tank to tank and even within the same tank in different location. Different lighting and nutrients can change colors.

I have several colonies of the same paly. After a stressful tank move they reopened and all the colonies now Have developed white speckles all over them. it's the most dramatic change I have Experienced but it is very common for colors to change based on tank conditions. After a while you can get a pretty good idea of how a drab specimen can color up under ideal conditions too.

Those shots are under 2 different light modes. One is with whites and blues the other is just blue. Tough to tell if they changed when it's not the same light.Take another pic of them with all lights on like the first.
