canary wrasse sand question

Title says, I have the wrasse already in a two inch sand bed. I am thinking of eliminating the sandbed when I upgrade, due to nutrient issues, etc. Obviously, this isn't going to work for the wrasse, so I was thinking of creating a small area of sand for him, maybe a piece of PVC with sand in it, or some other small sand area so that he can bury himself.

How large of an area do I need?

Has anyone tried this before?

Thoughts?

when I had to keep my tamarin in a rubbermaid tub I just supplied a tupperware container of sand to sleep in, worked perfectly
