candy cane and zoa's on same rock

I have 4 heads of candy cane that are now starting to come out.. they started in my dads tank and just wasnt wonkin out so I ummmm "aquired" them (hehe). But the rock that they are on also has some zoa's growing near them... is there a way I can split the two apart so they grow separately??

Candy canes have hard skeletons that can be cut off and mounted to another rock. Do a little research prior to cutting anything though. Here's a start,
