Candy cane coral with holes question

So, I got a fresh frag of candy cane coral. I didn't know so I handled it by the polyp and even pushed it when trying to glue it. So now it's obvious that's there are hole poked through out it. It's not tattered but it either has holes poked or somehow the color was stripped that looks like rips. Is it done for or will it be fine? I have had it for about 30min as I am writing this.
Another question I have is even before I put it in, it really stink. The mother colony when it was clipped from look just fine. Doesn't look like it has any issues. Color was good, polyps moving and all that. So is it normal for its skeleton to stink? What is the effect of it on a 18gal(water volume) if it A) has just something dying in the skeleton B) if the whole thing dies. It is about 1"x1"x1.5"

Update, they didn't die. And the stink did cause ammonia spike but nothing was really affected by it. I smelt it again a week after the ammonia spike and it smells normal now(still bad, but normal for corals bad)
