Candy Cane Coral

I traded for this CCC last week. Thisis how it looks almost all of the time. A couple of days ago I was checking out the aquarium during the night, around midnight, and noticed a few light feeder tentacles. It made me think of the Sun Coral that comes out at night. Is this normal for this coral?

Yes, perfectly normal.

On my candy canes, the tentacles come out soon after I turn my power heads off for feeding.

Caulastrea (candycane/trumpet coral) feeders and sweepers

All can "sting". Sweepers extend much longer than feeders and are used for defense

I fed mine tonight and sure enough, turned the powerheads off, placed some brine shrimp in each of their sets of feeders and they closed right up. Yum yum! I haven't seen any sweepers yet.

Got up at 5am this morning (why, you might ask? me too) and check out my candy cane coral! I should have taken the picture before putting coral frenzy in the water. Shortly after putting it in a couple of the heads closed up. However, you can see the feeding tentacles way far out and the color of the coral showing through. Usually it just looks white. Cool!
