Candy Cane Head Size?

I have some Krytonite Candy Cane colonies that are good size. The heads never get that large but continuously split. What would cause the heads to stay smaller? Are they getting too much light or flow? Miss having the big fat heads on it.

Lighting is a 6 bulb T5. Colony is on the sand bed. Tank depth is 24". Light is about 4"-6" above water.
