candycane feeding

when spot feeding a candycane coral, do you have to feed each head or do they spread the nourishment around if only a couple of heads get fed? I have over 20 heads on my coral and I find it really difficult to feed each head. I might feed 3 or 4 at a shot. Is this o.k.?

you don't need to feed each head - just make sure that you are feeding at night after they send out their tentacles for feeding.

There aren't any hard and fast rules. If you are using something bottled like Marine Snow, MicroVert, various phytoplanktons etc., follow the instructions on the bottle. For the time being use the low end of the the recommended dosing and see how the corals are doing. You don't want to overdo it and risk polluting your tank. Other make their own coral and fish/invertebrate food, you can do a search for these formulas on RC and other places.

since you can "cut" the stony part and its not living, doesnt it seem that if you are going to feed you would need to feed the entired colony?

You shouldn't have to feed really, I started out with a frag of 2 heads and now have over 20 and have never fed any of them...

I second the waiting til night, or when the lights go off. When you can see the tenacles out, that means it is looking for food. and spot feeding will give some heads alot and others will still get some so don't worry about it.

I have 20+ heads. I feed the tank around 8:30 - 9:00. The lights go out at 10. The whole colony gets a baster full just like anything else. I maybe feed my corals 3-4 X month. Its been healty looking for 9+ months now.
