Candystripe Basslet?

Yeah, I guess I shoulda clarified that a bit: The fish is in my 40G breeder, which used to be my refugium but is now my LPS/auxillary tank. It has become quite a character too as it loves to 'stalk' its food (PE Mysis) around the tank before grabbing it. Will sometimes do this for nearly a minute or until it gets blown by one of the powerheads. This apparently really brings out the predator in it.

Yes.

Good to know. Not very common for your average hobbyist to be able to acquire fish directly from a collector. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Yes use normal guys can get directly from collectors. The thing is you have to work at it and continually develop relationships with everyone and anyone who has there hand in the industry. Being knowledgable and helping the collectors sell expensive fish help to put fish your own tank a much more reasonable price. Like I said the problem is you have to be an absolute fanatic about fish and most importantly don't take advantage of the situation. Regards, Tim

Hey guys I know this thread is ridiculously old, but any idea who I can contact to grab a candy basslet at a reasonable price? ie. not 900?

There's a close one on Diver's Den right now, they come up every now and again. You can probably find one on another site for about $50-100. Just a heads up, they hide all the time. I came here looking for info on how to get mine to be more social. Even in a 90, with very few mellow tankmates, I will always find it in some kind of cave. Seems happy, doesn't run away when I'm looking through the glass right at it, but I have to do cartwheels just to see it.
