Canister Filter GAC and GFO Question

My tank is in about the third month and has cycled nicely. I have 55lbs of live rock and 50 pounds of live sand. My protein skimmer is starting to produce skimmate. I have a pair of percula clowns and a blue/green chromis, plus some assorted CUC members. My nitrate is between 5 and 10 ppm, so I am going to do a 20% water change today with RODI water. I also feel that I have adequate water flow with 2 koralia 1150gph pumps.

My question is this: I am on the fence about either ditching the canister all together or using it to run GAC and GFO, or possibly just some Chemipure Elite and remove the sponges. Any thoughts or opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.

I figured this would be the best time to ask since I am going to tear apart the canister today to clean the media.

I still use my Eheim 2213 on my 75 tank. With the quick disconnect valves, I find it easier to service than an in-sump reactor and a lot quieter too. I sandwich a small bag of mixed GFO and GAC between two filter pads. Then I rinse it out and refill it with tank water one week and replace the media the next week. Works for me.

Good luck.
