canister filter

Hello Everyone, hooked up my new Marineland magnum 350 last night. I was just looking for some reassurance about canister filters. Has anyone ever had one leak or even flood? All that water pumping out and then back in scares me. Kinda nervous about it while I am at work today. I checked it this am and everything looked ok, no leaks. Can these flood or anything?

anything with a hose and water can leak.....

Make sure you use that silicone lube they gave you on the top o-ring when you assemble the lid. I also did not like the pressure hose attachement being secured only by that silly o-ring thing. Sure it is probably secure but I added a small thumb screw clamp (just snugged and not "tight")

What is a small thumb screw clamp. might have to pick one up sounds like a good idea. Did you mean on the inlet tubing where it actually hooks to the top of the filter? Or did you do both the inlet and outlet?

The most probable times it will leak is when you service it. If you don't get the seal right when you reassemble it, it will leak. But, that is something you will see when you restart it. I have never had one just start leaking if no one is messing with it.

A thumb screw is just a small worm clamp that does not require a screwdriver (if you over tighten it will break the hose barbs).

I have them on all the hoses
I am sure it is not really needed but I just feel better with them is all.
