canister filters

do you recomend using a canister filter for a reef tank and if so which one do you recomend and which type of media should i run. i am planning to run it 24/7 and not just to polish water. i am thinking softies, lps, clams, BTA. btw this is for a 60 gallon hex not RR and no space for a sump. any other filtration suggestions would be helpfull.

I run a Fluval 304 with Purigen and PhosGuard on my tank. Just make sure you clean the filter often (once a week or sooner) and you will be fine. Most canisters are great at removing detrius and particle matter from the water and as a bonus clear the water up nicely.

Magnum 350 is the only one I've had good success with. They are pretty realiable. I ran the standard filter media and carbon 24/7 without any problems. The best thing you can do for filtration is to invest in a good skimmer.
Hope that helps.

i already have a aqua clear hang on filter can this be used instead of buying a new canister? if i go canister which media should i run for a full blown reef. i have been told to take out all spnges and just run phosban, carbon, etc. but could i not do the same with the hang on powere filter lmk then i could spend more money on a quality skimmer
