Canister fix

So I came back from a trip and my canister was going crazy with thousands of microbubbles every 3min. I did a lot of research to figure out how to fix it but I couldn't get any positive feedback, but a lot of people did say it's probably a leak in the seal. So I disconnected and disassembled it, removed, all its content, rinsed them properly and reassembled them, paying attention to the alignment and proper seal. I also loosened and retightened the hose connectors. Its been more than a month now and my canister still running perfectly. So if anyone out there is having similar issues, here's a probable solution.

Air is getting in from some where. If that is the case you would end up with a leak also. If there is no leak then no air is entering from that area. Maybe bubbles coming from another unit that’s getting sucked up into your filter?

A temp solution is to add a filter sock on the outlet of your filter and all the micro bubbles will be trade in the sock while water is able to escape.

I know how to fix it!

It's a cannister filter and they have never been designed for SW use. As such unless cleaned regularly, your best bet is to just toss it.

I have a feeling that most people that use a canister have come from the fresh side of the hobby and have the "I need a filter of some sort" drilled into their brains.

All you need in SW is rock and flow for filtration. Canister filters become a huge PITA as they need to be cleaned at least every week or even several times a week or they can become nitrate factories.
