Canister vs hob refugium

Looking for something to help with phosphate removal etc. just a fowler but like to have my lights on without tons of algae. Im either thinking a canister filter for some mechanical filtration then put in some chemo pure, purged etc. or a CPR refugiumLooking but it's only like 5 gallons, so not sure it's even worth while on a 75 g. No sump since tank isn't drilled and don't trust the siphon overflows. Any input?

in a tank that big i would have done a sump. but you can very successfully take care of the algae with a HOB fuge or skimmer. honestly i use a canister now and did on a 75 i had before i knew about sumps. i only use canisters for sponge and chemipure. i would make sure u have a great skimmer that will help a lot but a cpr hob fuge will be very beneficial. with it not being a reef i would just get a beefy skimmer tell us more about ur tank feeding lighting and filtration now
