On a very serious note, does anyone know if it's harmful to smoke medical marijuana inside a not so well vented room?

any smoke could cause a film on the top of the tank. That film could inhibit the O2 exchange. If your running a venturi skimmer or have a good strong overflow, your probably fine....
Also- watch out, when your fish start swiming into the glass, they are too stoned!
:)

I have not noticed any adverse effects so far, coral growth for example has been fantastic, even the SPS corals I recently purchased. I got a remora skimmer plus a couple MJ1200s for flow, so I should be alright. I'm almost 100% that some of the smoke will get into the water especially because of the skimmer.

You should be fine. Some bars have aquariums, and I doubt you're smoking as much pot as a barroom full of drunks smoking cigarettes.

you never know...

I have seen a couple occasions where a tank seemed to go downhill around constant cigarette smoke. I knew someone who had a reef in what amounted to a smoking/poker lounge, and a few days after they had a large group of people down there, the tank would look poor- higher incidence of fish disease outbreaks, even had some corals begin to receed, etc. It may be coincidence, but it happened enough times that I now suggest that people dont smoke around their tanks- the toxins are pulled into the water, and Im willing to bet it will affect fish and inverts more quickly than it would people.
Thats tobacco anyhow. Marijuana, Im not sure, but I would probably guess the same thing could happen; there are still some funky chemicals being put in the air.

Well of course! They constantly have the munchies!

Man when I read the title to this thread...I had to look twice.

I can IMO think that any smoke would be bad...

lol I am still chuckling!

Maybe they like getting high too. ;) On a more serious note, I wouldn't do it, as I would rather be safe then sorry.

I'm not sure. I would suggest you send me some and I will test it out and report back to you with my results. In the name of science I assure you.

Maybe your occupation should say "smoking the pot", instead of "stirring the pot".

I couldn't figure out for some time why my corals looked bad when I lived in a rental house with some roommates. All the water checked out by all standard tests, but even GSP looked like crap. When my scolymia finally tanked, I got really ****ed and came home early one day, thinking it was because they roommates were intentionally doing something.

My newest roommate had a computer by the tank because he liked to work online and look at the fish. He smoked all day long by it, not respecting our no-smoking-in-the-house rule. *sigh* Since I couldn't convince him to stop, I added Purigen to the filter, and, after that, no more issues with the corals!

Actually, ever since then, and even after switching roomies I've used Purigen on all my tanks, just in case!

dont know about the POT but i wont let my woman light a candle near my tank i also stopped wearing cologne

i can not beleive this thread is still open

That made me laugh for a solid minute. Maybe that is all that is needed for Idols to survive. hahahaha

When we clam-baked with our "medical" pot in a small room containing a seahorse tank with skimmer and lots of surface agitation there was no adverse effects to the tank.

as long as you are using the weed in place of mangroves and growing your own hydro i bet your good lol This thread made me laugh :)

ahhh so the real question comes out, " can weed replace mangroves" lol for the cataracts only though right? :)
