Canon A610 lens question.........

I'm not rich but would like to be able to take closer pictures of my corals. Would a cheapo x2 telephoto lens get me the pics i want or would i be better off to use the 25 bucks on a lens adapter and buy one of these:

I know with reef tanks you always get what you pay for, i have a sneeking suspicion photography is the same way.

What do you guys think?

A quick google shows the A610 has a minimum focusing distance of about 2". Keep in mind that a diopter (close-up kit, whatever you want to call it) will only give you more magnification by allowing the camera to get closer to your subject and still focus. Considering your camera will focus down to 2", getting closer probably isn't going to happen. You can always get a cheap close-up kit from ebay (you don't need the specific Canon one) and give it a whirl though.
