Canon XT help

I'm torn with deciding what is best for me.

First off I want awesome family photos, I love shooting still shots of the seasons and weather and my tank.
I would like macro shots of things in my tank along with flowers and the such.

My question is?

1) should I get a kit, then add a good macro lens or just get the run of the mill package?

2)Any recommendations on a kit?

3) what macro lens would you suggest

Oh I noticed there seems to be two kits for the XT(350d) model, which one would offer the best for me?

I'm fairly new to digital cameras but currently own a Minolta Dimage5 yes I like it but it's out of date besides I want the megapixels as I do frame and hang my pictures.

Thanks for any help and suggestions you can give me.

We got the kit with the 17-85 mm EF-S lens. Good all around lens for family shots and for vacation. I've taken good shots of my tank, too, but could use a separate macro lens to get closer to the subject matter. The image stabilization in the 17-85 EF-S lens is great.

This is what I would do , But the body only and get the Tamron 28-75 . This lens makes a great all around lens and when you save up a little more get the Canon 100mm macro for tank pics .

The Tamron doubles as a macro lens , but the canon is the best at it .

HTH's,
Joe
