Canopy and Lighting Question

Hey man - for you I'll do it :D. That's what I do so it's somewhat easy for me . The glass I use is very expensive (called Bullseye Glass) but I normally get a discount because I purchase a lot at one time. I have the kilns and the tools - that's it. I can even show you how to do it if you'd like. I think it would look very cool also! This will be lots of fun.

yeah I have been through the grey market deal. I almost bought the d50 and didn't. it was $499 with the 18-55 nikkor lens. that was ritz . now I think it's regular price. kicking myself a little .oh well I will get another deal. man you probably paid more for the lens than the camera.

Oh yea - it was very pricy but I figured it's for life. I'll always have a Nikon so I went for it. If you can get it for $499 yes that's a great deal. When I purchased my D50 it was lots more. I have seen some good prices on them so the good prices are out there.

We could do back in wood, and all others sides in glass. You want to see glass all around the top. You saw all the glass I have - not a problem. Besides it's on me! To purchase something like this, with it being made out of glass - in the neighborhood of around $300.00 - 600+. But we have to take our time and make it look really nice. They have some beautiful colors and when you mix them together it gets even better. Here's a piece I did last year for one of the local museums. I made the bird out of clay and the water using a mixture of glass colors. I just loved the color of the water, but it took some experimenting to get it just right. The wave action was very hard. I had to fire it 6 or 7 times to get it right and each firing is 4 - 6 hours to fire and 24 hours to cool. Now you know why hand built glass peices cost so much. Oh yea - it's going to look purty!

so would this be like 3 stained glass windows that glow from the halides?if so that is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cool:D

Oh yes indeed, but we'll be using fusible glass not stained glass. They have different coefficients (melting points, movement etc) and can't be mixed - if you do they break!

No that's what the kiln does, it melts everything together. You lay it out somewhat like stain glass but you don't use "cane" or lead. We use very high heat to melt the glass together.

only problem i see,is that i would need a piece around 3 feet long for the front panel.it would have to be this long to get the spread on the halides i want.you have pm.

My kiln can handle 14 inch max pieces, so we can make three scenes to go across the front. That would look very cool - looks like you'll be keeping me very busy - LOL

Ok - this is were I am with the canopy. I have the frame built and the other pieces cut but not attached. Here's a photo of the frame:

I've finished the stand except putting the final electrical boxes in and the ballasts:

Notice the box on the side, that is where all the electric connections for the lighting will be housed.

I sure hope you reefers out there didn't take this as an advertisement and if so I'll apologize now.
