any suggestions on a fan or 2 for the canopy that I'm getting ready to put on and I'd rather buy local like radio shack or something if the price is right, read the reviews on icecap fan that was inconclusive some said noisy and others didn't. any input would be appreciated, Steve

Since you've got the hook up with Ade, this is more for the interest of anyone else thinking about putting in fans . . .

I use four 4" fans bought at Radio Shack. Not really "cheap" when you consider they're ~$20 each.

I wired them all together and connected them to a variable voltage transformer (~$15, easily found in the electronics section of Wal-Mart). Grab the highest rated one they got (1300mA, I think); the amperage of the fans is additive, each fan is 320mA for a total of 1280mA. It's really easy; just cut off the ends of the wires, strip off a bit of insulation, twist them together with a nut cap and some electrical tape.

The variable voltage transformer has a slider switch that allows you to change the voltage from 12V to 9V to 7.5V and smaller . . . as you decrease the voltage, the speed slows and the sound drops significantly.

I just got 2 250 watt metal halides ontop of my 100 gallon in the canopy and could use some fans. I have just been keeping the canopy open so that it doesn't get too hot. Do you guys just cut out a place for the fans on the side of the canopy or put them in the back? I am limited with tools because im a student and most of those things are at home so hopefully I can do what josh was talking about.

if you want to cut holes for them, i have the tools to cut whatever size hole you want.
